MGNREGS scam: class X boy presented as holder of a work card; embezzled money

Malkangiri: The projects carried out under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) are marred by irregularities in the district of Malkangiri.

Class X student was enrolled in the role of work card holder in Udupa panchayat.

Reports indicate that MGNREGS salaries to the tune of Rs 11,000 were embezzled on behalf of Siddhant Tuduka.

In fact, the student was shocked to learn that his treatment had been hijacked.

A few days ago, Siddhant visited Utkal Gramya Bank in Padmagiri to withdraw his allowance. However, his account was declared void.

When he drew the attention of the banking authorities to his problem, an official told him to submit a request regarding the complaint and the complaint will be investigated.

Although the students frequented the bank, the bank did not investigate the complaint.

It was alleged that his bank account data was used for an MGNREGS project. It was presented as a daily bet while his salary was credited to his account (84049249604).

All the money, including her allowance, was fraudulently withdrawn. He alleged that the local sarpanch, some bank officials and others were involved in the scam.

In addition, an account was reportedly opened in the name of a woman who died years ago in the Udupa panchayat. It was entered as a daily bet.

Wages have been embezzled against his name. Huge funds from MGNREGS have been embezzled by fake banknotes and fake daily bets.

Residents have called for a Vigilance investigation into irregularities in the panchayat.
